California Masons make a profound difference for public schools in communities statewide.
Leading the way for public education
Masons have championed many great causes throughout history, but perhaps none as far-reaching, or as personal, as public education. We started some of the first public schools in America and advocated for legislation to help make education accessible to everyone.
View a timeline detailing our legacy of support for California public schools.
Today, California Masons continue to support public education through relevant, impactful programs that reach some of the most disadvantaged communities in our state - including a special focus on early childhood literacy.
Public school support is lead by our Public Schools Advisory Councils - groups of Masonic leaders who collaborate with school districts, community leaders, and guidance counselors to provide targeted, local support. Each April, they organize celebrations throughout the state to recognize Public Schools Month.
California Masonic Foundation programs and focuses:
Community partnerships: Building strong relationships with community organizations that share our values allows us to make a difference at a local level.
Masonic youth orders: By providing leadership grants to Masonic youth, the Foundation helps ensure that our Masonic values will endure for future generations.
Nursing grants: By increasing the number of oncology certified nurses through By Your Side nursing grants, California Masons help ensure that cancer patients have access to the best possible care.
Scholarships: We provide needed scholarships to support high school seniors who demonstrate an active pursuit of education, despite hardships. We also help connect children in our Masonic family and other students with awards administered through Masonic organizations.
Teacher of the Year awards: Each year, the fraternity awards $1,000 to each of the five California teachers of the year in recognition of their important contributions to public education in our state.
