More than 160 volunteers arrived early on December 6 at the Masonic Home at Union City for a family-style breakfast, then spent two hours putting up 24 Christmas trees before most residents awoke.
The holiday decorating party has become one of the biggest events of the year at the Home, drawing volunteers of all ages from the surrounding community, including youths from Masonic youth orders DeMolay, Rainbow for Girls, and Job's Daughters. Volunteers divided into groups to design and decorate their own trees. Residents and Union City employees from the Environmental, Housekeeping, and Dietary Departments also joined in to make the event a success.
Residents, staff, and volunteers vote on their favorite trees each year. On January 3, volunteers will return to accept awards for the winning trees and ring in the new year by taking down the 2008 decorations.
