Together we make a profound difference

The Gift of Literacy

The Masons of California are well into the second year of their groundbreaking partnership with award-winning literacy and family engagement leader, Raising A Reader. And pilot schools throughout California are reporting astonishingly positive results.

In one San Jose-area classroom, students’ independent reading ability improved by 70% after introducing Raising A Reader. Parents, educators, and administrators are applauding the program and California Masons’ commitment to supporting public education.

“The students and parents are excited and thankful to have this wonderful opportunity,” said Shari Fox, Ph.D., superintendent of San Jacinto Unified School District. “Our reading scores will improve as a result of this program, but equally important, the love for reading is being fostered. We thank the Masons for making this possible.”

A teacher in San Francisco added, “My students and parents have been very excited about the program since the day it was introduced to them. They love having something ‘extra special’ to share together.”

Support the fraternity’s project, Raising A Reader, by making a personal or lodge gift at freemason.org.

Lodges that contribute to Raising A Reader this year will be recognized by Grand Master John Lowe during the 164th Annual Communication in October.
