This fall, 10 residents and four staff members from the Masonic Home at Covina put their chefs’ hats on for charity.
For the first time, they created a cookbook of specialties from their own kitchens, including Beer Cheese Soup, Grilled Gazpacho Salad with Shrimp, Balsamic Glazed Pork Tenderloin, and Sweet Symphony Brownies.
All proceeds from cookbook sales will be donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
The campus has rallied around the project: A resident and staff competition determined the cookbook title – “Recipes Through the Ages,” suggested by resident Helene Measer – and in December, residents and staff will square off in a community-wide recipe cook-off.
Beginning the week after Thanksgiving, cookbooks will be available for $7.50 in the Covina gift shop. Out-of-town orders can be placed through Shirleen Nielsen, director of food and dining services, at 626/251-2215.
